Supervision for Provisional Licensed Immigration Advisers
Choosing the right supervisor is one of the most important decisions you will make as a Provisional Licensed Immigration Adviser (PLIA). My supervision is practical, hands-on and tailored to your experience and learning objectives.
What I bring to my supervision
-
Nearly 11 years' experience in the immigration industry.
-
Hands-on experience across a broad range of visa categories, including many complex cases.
-
Extensive experience leading, training and coaching immigration teams of up to 20 staff, with coaching and mentoring forming a significant part of my professional career, both within and before the immigration industry.
-
Practical guidance that goes beyond policy, including developing professional judgement, identifying risk and thinking critically through complex situations.
-
Business mentoring for PLIAs who own, or intend to establish, their own practice, including workflow, pricing, client management and business development.
-
Individual supervision tailored to your knowledge, confidence and long-term development, not just your Professional Development Plan (PDP).
Fees are discussed individually, as supervision requirements vary depending on your experience and the level of support required.
"As a Provisionally Licensed Immigration Adviser I have found Zinnia’s supervision invaluable. Zinnia has always made herself available (even at short notice) for me to ask advice around any compliance or client issues. The style of supervision that Zinnia applies is to ask me what I think the solution is and why I think that is the correct solution.
In our Professional Development meetings, she will set me a task to complete and then we review this at the next meeting. This style of teaching has taught me to think through a problem myself and source the solution, then go to Zinnia to see if this is correct.
It also means that I get used to the variety of resources used by LIA’s such as the Ops Manual, INZ website, and the Immigration Act, and ensures that I can navigate these platforms. As Zinnia is in Auckland and I am in Gisborne we use Teams for our meetings and Zinnia will often ask me to share my screen to show her I am able to access these resources. She will also offer advice on easier ways to get the required information.
Zinnia’s patience and calm manner enable me to feel comfortable asking any questions no matter how small or trivial."

"I am a fully Licensed Immigration Adviser and even though I don’t require supervision in the ‘IAA’ sense, Zinnia has been a great teacher for policies, and a sounding board for case strategy. Especially as the August 2026 residence rules were announced, due to personal commitments, I couldn’t stay up-to-date and was left behind. But Zinnia spearheads policy change in our industry anyway, she’s always at the forefront of getting clarification of new rules and ensured that I was on par with these new technical changes & risks."

"Zinnia has been my mentor and work colleague. She has given us many policy & code trainings. While the clerical staff are not licensed immigration advisers, Zinnia’s way of explaining things – breaking down a big complex policy into first bite sized chunks, then bringing it all together and then using scenarios to drive that knowledge home in a practical way – makes many of us feel like we might as well be LIAs. I personally am well-versed with certain instructions better than contractors or new LIAs that have come along at our business – I attribute that wholly to Zinnia.
Zinnia is a natural born trainer, a skill that is so advanced that you don't often see this level of teaching in someone who's not actually a teacher by profession, a skill that is so uniquely adapted to the person being taught. Zinnia uses different training styles with each staff at our company, as she has identified what works better for them vs. not.
When Zinnia delivers training in any format – we do not forget. It's practical advice that can be used straight away."
